I can see the finish line!

Posted by Unknown at Tuesday, March 26, 2013 20 comments
Hi everyone! :)

D.O.G.S has been working on finalizing the details for our IRS application for 501c3 status.  We are meeting with our non profit attorney this week to receive her feedback and expertise review.  Once we get the feedback, we will make final edits, off to the mail it goes and the waiting game begins again.  The fee for the application is about $400.  You can expect to wait 4-8 months to get a response from the IRS, denying or approving your application, good luck!

Make sure you have your checklist ready: Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, Conflict of Interest policy, financial strategies and planning, program planning narratives, etc.  All the info you need will be on the above (photo) check list at http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Application-for-Recognition-of-Exemption

If you still have questions check in with D.O.G.S or a community attorney can assist you.  Connect with CAPSH in Hennepin County MN or http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/home/index.htm in Ramsey County MN.  For other counties check this site out: http://www.mncounties.org/About_Counties/county_websites.html

On another note:  D.O.G.S welcomed a new Board member to our amazing team, welcome Lan!  Thanks for your commitment and dedication to helping to make D.O.G.S be successful to be a helping hand to assist animals in need! :)  If you are interested in becoming one of our Board members please visit our website at www.dogsofagoodsociety.org and complete an application.  Thanks!

Work in Progress:

  • fundraising
  • innovative projects in the works to network with other animal organizations and communities
  • strategic planning
  • social media/PR
  • connecting with other organizations....
Until next time, hug a furbaby, lend a hand!

Diamonds in the Ruff

Posted by Unknown at Monday, March 11, 2013 1 comments

Hi Everyone!

D.O.G.S had the opportunity to collaborate with Diamonds in the Ruff, a new animal rescue organization "Diamonds in the Ruff is a small non-profit organization based in Roseville, Minnesota working to help place homeless canines in loving, appropriately-matched homes. We work to complete our mission one Precious life at a time."  Check out their FB page at Diamonds in the Ruff and website at www.diamondsintheruffmn.org and help support the great work they are doing to help homeless dogs.

D.O.G.S was able to provide some funding to assist with vet costs for this sweet angel below.   His name is Asscher and is now in his forever home.  He is a black lab Golden Retriever puppy from an unwanted litter.  Thanks to Diamonds in the Ruff he was saved!  We are also collecting supplies to donate to Diamonds; we are collecting small crates, collars, blankets, and dog food.  A couple of individuals have reached out to D.O.G.S to donate dog supplies.  Thanks to team members at Target for your generous donations!

Photo: UBBA my little helper watches as I wash the car, tough job don't you think. He is 4 months old and is looking for a nice new home.
Any one know who might be looking for a Half Lab and Golden retriever mom.. fuzzy hair big legs and paws and loves hugs and pets. He is a sweetheart dog.

Meet Solitaire, he is a 2 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound, is gentle, crate trained, house trained and gets along with other dogs and children.  What a sweet heart!  If you or if you know of anyone who would like him as part of the family contact Diamonds in the Ruff or D.O.G.S  To learn more about him visit www.diamondsintheruffmn.org

This is what D.O.G.S mission is all about, working with other animal communities to make a difference in an animal's life, one animal at at time.  We believe in Diamonds in the Ruff's mission and are glad to be able to help and look forward to working with them in the future.  Thanks for your support everyone, keep spreading the word about D.O.G.S ;)

Until next time,

MyLy

Pass it On!

Hi all!

Speak Up Minnesota!  D.O.G.S had the opportunity to be present and support the Speak Up rally at the capitol today and represented D.O.G.S

IN SUPPORT OF S.F. 36/H.F. 84 MN DOG AND CAT BREEDER BILL Minnesota has no State law to license, inspect or regulate dog and cat breeders. Protect dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in commercial breeding facilities. Help pass the MN Dog and Cat Breeder Regulation Bill http://www.speakupmn.org/

We are hoping this succeeds and passes; it's been years in the making and TOO many animals are suffering, animal lovers too!  We only get one life, live it well, live it right and most of all live it compassionately. :)

Dave and I representing D.O.G.S and showing our support!

We were there, hope you were too!  If you couldn't make it please reach out to your legislature and Speak Up on behalf of those who aren't able to, like these guys, my inspirations......

Fostering Love

Posted by Unknown at Wednesday, January 30, 2013 0 comments
Hi everyone!

D.O.G.S has been moving along...D.O.G.S would like to reach out to those who may be interested in fostering.  This is one need from organizations that D.O.G.S is recognizing a high demand for.  Fostering an animal may be temporary, but the impact is permanent and greatly appreciated by humans and animals alike!  Please if you are interested in fostering an animal, even just for a little while and you can find room in your heart and home please contact us and we can connect with you with the many rescues and agencies that so desperately need loving homes for wonderful animals to stay while they find their forever home. :)

dogsofagoodsociety@gmail.com

Who knows you may welcome a new member to your family while you are fostering.... :)

until next time!

Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

Posted by Unknown at Monday, January 14, 2013 0 comments
Hi everyone!

It's been a crazy few weeks, but here we are!  D.O.G.S is having our first benefit event this Wednesday and we are all excited for it!  We have our to do list complete *fingers crossed* and are ecstatic to get things going.  The benefit celebration will be in honor of D.O.G.S being incorporated and to share with some family and friends about D.O.G.S as well as a benefit to support our mission.  A lot goes into planning an event and we couldn't have done it without the Board and great community support!  Some things to consider when you are having your event:

  • venue
  • guest list
  • decor
  • food/beverages
  • invites (evites are FREE and reach out to many people at once)
  • prizes
  • thank you's
  • benefit/donation items or ideas
  • timing of invites, etc
  • extra meetings
  • budget
  • outreach material
  • visuals
  • and much more!  Good luck and have fun!

Besides the event we have been working on our IRS paper work.  You can get your 1023 IRS form here: http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Application-for-Recognition-of-Exemption
It's a longer application then the Attorney General registration and incorporation forms.  It also requests for narratives so be prepared for it.  Also it will ask for a 4 year financial plan and narrative as well as narratives on program planning.   We recommend working with a non profit attorney to help you out.  You may find one at your local community non profits.  Over the past week we received our AG (attorney general) registration letter as well!  More information to come!

Other great highlights of the past week, we celebrated our babies birthdays!  Leche and Jasmine turned 4 years old on January 9th.  Happy birthday my sweet babies! :)
This is them with their dad at PetCo getting a special birthday present- a new toy of course, but only Kongs!  They chew up everything else pretty good! :)

Waiting for their special birthday dinner...berries, fish and some lamb from the pet store!

Leche after his bday meal....that's my silly boy! :)

Until next time, thanks for all your support!

Woof!
